Bowen Designs Marvel Modern Thor Museum Statue.
Inspired by the Norse God of Thunder, Thor made his first appearance in "Journey Into Mystery" #83 in 1962. The cover boldly proclaimed him as "The most exciting superhero of all time!!" With the success of the initial short story features, the book was aptly renamed "The Mighty Thor." In the early stories, Thor possessed dual identities, the God of Thunder and the mortal Donald Blake. When Dr. Don Blake tapped his wooden cane to the ground, he would transform into The Mighty Thor, and the cane would become his legendary hammer, Mjolnir. It was later revealed that Thor's father Odin, the Lord of the Gods, had placed him in the mortal form of Donald Blake as a lesson in humility. After Thor learned his lesson, Odin freed him of the alter ego. While his adventures take him back to the immortal realm of Asgard and beyond, Thor maintains an affinity for Earth, as his mother Gaea is the eldest goddess of Midgard (Earth). Armed with his godlike powers and mystical hammer, Thor serves as both Asgard's mightiest son and Earth's ever-vigilant protector.
