Things aren't going well for billionaire playboy Tony Stark. Facing a new foe, the vengeful and bitter Ivan Vanko, known as Whiplash. Stark is also battling his own mortality, the arc reactor which previously saved his life is now poisoning him with palladium and his efforts to find a replacement element have proven futile.
